João Pessoa is a vibrant coastal city in northeastern Brazil, serving as the capital of Paraíba state. Founded in 1585, it is one of the oldest cities in the country and sits at the easternmost point of the Americas. The Ponta do Seixas, a cape marked by a lighthouse, is the easternmost tip, offering breathtaking ocean views and a sense of standing at the edge of the world. With a population of around 800,000, it’s a bustling yet laid-back urban center that blends history, culture, and natural beauty. The city is centered in a region of the Northeast that is home to nearly 2 million people.
The Blaylock family is currently pioneering a network of “igrejas simples” or simple churches in this region. Built upon Vineyard values, with a strong emphasis on Kingdom Theology, “doing the stuff”, and a simple ecclesiology designed to help people welcome Jesus into all of life, these simple churches are the primary engine of discipleship and advancing the Gospel in a difficult religious environment. With João Pessoa as a central hub, the vision is to branch out to the surrounding areas to plant churches, raise leaders, and make disciples.
