I am sorry that it has been a few months since we updated. We have been in the midst of the most beaurcratic season of our ministry career it feels like, but now we can see some light at the end of the tunnel. I had to make an emergency trip to the US to resolve some banking and legal issues for immigration back in May, then turned around early June and traveled to the national conference here – which crammed a lot of ministry work into too few days between all the travel. But, for all that we have had some really beautiful moments of ministry which we will talk about more below. Our house purchase is finally done! Thinks work a bit differently here, and its a much more involved process than in the USA, but its done. We move in on July 14th! Thank you for all your prayers. The sweet lady we bought from comes from a ministry family – and she had felt like the Lord had told her that this house would be a church someday. She was a bit confused by that until we bought the house, and figured out what we are doing! We have many decades of work ahead of us to accomplish the vision the Lord has given – and we hope that this house serves as a place of warmth, hospitality, and comfort for the purposes of sharing the Good News. All of our immigration paperwork is submitted! Please pray for a good outcome. Having been here for 4 years we are now officially eligible for permanent residency. We used a lawyer to help us navigate this complicated process and he got everything submitted last week. Pray for favor and a swift approval. On the family side of things – Amanda and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary and 41st birthdays during the month of June! Our sweet kids did all they could to make these celebrations special for us in the midst of all our transition – and our church family also came around us to celebrate and make us feel well loved. Thank all of you also who called, sent messages, and for the extra gifts you gave us for our birthdays and to help with the new house expenses. You are very generous – and we feel deeply loved and supported. And lets not forget – its World Cup Season! World Cup season starts during a the Festival of St. John – so its been one giant rolling party ever since mid-June. When Brazil plays the whole city shuts down – and when they score a goal you can hear our entire neighborhood cheering shortly followed by the boom of fireworks. Its quite the spectacle and all good fun. Thank you all again for the prayers and financial support. At this retreat we were able to share about the Kingdom of God, the distinctives of the Vineyard, how to hear from God, and the 5 step prayer model. It was a wonderful weekend! The immediate feedback was that everyone enjoyed being together. Each person has recently lost Christian community for various reasons, or they never had it to begin with, and they loved having this time together. After having 2 weeks to process all they learned and practiced at the retreat, there were some really amazing stories shared with us. “L” grew up attending church occasionally, and was baptized as an infant, but says she now realizes that she was really never saved. She has commented several times about how our church is so different from anything she has been a part of before. She has heard us talk a lot about hearing God speak, and wondered if that was real or if we were making that up, because she had never experienced that before. After the payer retreat, she was with some friends and they were praying for a woman. “L” felt like God was telling her to say something to the woman about loneliness, but she wasn’t sure if that was from God or not so she didn’t say anything. A minute later, her friend leaned over and said, “Hey, I think God wants us to pray for her loneliness.” They asked the woman about this, and she confirmed that this was something she was really struggling with. They prayed for her and the woman was blessed by the presence of God, and “L” was encouraged that she did in fact hear from God. She is SO excited to know that God will speak to her too!!! “L” also mentioned that she has never liked to pray out loud, especially praying out loud for other people. She felt like she was always searching for the right words to say, and never quite said the right thing. In the past 2 weeks, she has experienced confidence in praying for other people, even out loud, and feeling like she is not searching for the right words to pray, but that God is bringing those words to her. “Q” has been a Christian for a long time, and has heard the Lord speak to her, but not so much recently. She also loves to pray for other people. At the retreat she felt like God was telling her she needed to be quiet more when she prayed; less talking and more listening. After working on this for 2 weeks, she has been able to hear from God again! She even received some words of knowledge for a few friends, and they were blessed by her sharing that with them and praying with them. “G” is a mom of 2 young children and she is a very strong, capable person. She has recently felt burdened with all that she has to do, feeling like she is doing everything with her own will and ability. At the retreat she felt like God was telling her to be still, and let him do the work for her. Since then she has been trying to give her efforts over to God, rather than trying to do everything in her own strength. She has felt a spiritual and even physical relief of the pressure she had been experiencing. “M” is from Canada, and has been working with us here in Brazil for about 5 months. She has 1 month left before she returns to Canada, and has been praying about what God has for her to do next. She is in a place of lots of decisions to make about her future. At the retreat she felt the feeling of warmth and love of being a part of the family of God here. So much so that it eased some of her sadness of leaving behind her community in Canada.
