Across the Amazon basin, many remote communities face significant barriers to basic dental care. Long distances, limited transportation, shortages of healthcare professionals, and the high cost of treatment can mean that preventable dental problems go untreated for years.
Project Semear Sorrisos (Seeding Smiles) is a dental outreach project connected to our church-planting efforts that works to change that. The project is currently working in the Marajó River region of Belém. This is after four weeks in various other locations, attending a projected 1400 pacientes with over 5000 procedures.
By bringing dental professionals and essential supplies directly to underserved communities, the project provides practical care where it is needed most. The project focuses not only on treating existing problems, but also on prevention and education. Patients receive dental examinations, basic treatments, dentures, oral-hygiene supplies, and guidance on caring for their teeth and gums.
Children are an especially important part of the work. Teaching good brushing and oral-health habits early can help prevent painful infections and more serious dental problems later in life.
The goal is to share the love of Jesus through action. Common people use their talents, their time, and their hands to love, care for, and serve others. Each interaction presents an opportunity to seed health, hope, and the love of Jesus. This project is contributing to healthier smiles and impacting lives with a transformational love.
From the riverbanks of the Amazon to the communities we are privileged to serve, we are reminded that meaningful change begins with connection, compassion, and a willingness to show up. We are grateful to everyone who makes this work possible.
